Falmouth Artists Guild Highlights

DEMO DERBY:
Sunday, June 9, 2–4pm

Join as for an afternoon of demonstrations by teachers and members of the Falmouth Artists Guild.  Artists include Kate Aubrey, water color teacher, Susan Jensen, children’s teacher, Betsy Payne Cook, pastel teacher, Suzy Bergmann, weaving teacher, and members Ruth Leech, David Kelley, Betty Jameson, and Linda Walker.  The variety of media to be demonstrated will include watercolor, oil, pastel, and printmaking.  Admission is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.

Call For Artists:
JURIED ABSTRACT EXHIBIT

The Guild will be hosting its first Juried Abstract Exhibition in June.  Juror Kate Nelson studied printmaking and painting on Cape Cod, in Boston at Massachusetts College or Art, and at Haystack Mountain School on Deer Isle in Maine.  She believes that, “like jazz, abstract painting is born in passion, nurtured in structure and grown by improvisation.  I hope to see my work become like good jazz; disciplined yet free, spare yet full, within a rich tradition yet achingly personal?

Receiving will be on Tuesday, June 11 from 9:30am–7:00pm and the awards reception will be held at the Falmouth Art Center at 137 Gifford Street on Friday, June 14 from 5:00pm–7:00pm.  Awards will be given in the following categories: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, and Juror’s Choice.  See Art Exhibitions for more information and to download a prospectus.

THE ART OF COLLECTING ART:
Thursday, June 6, 4:30pm

Helen Addison, of the Addison Gallery in Orleans showing contemplative, decorative art and Chris Quidley of Quidley & Company, Nantucket's and Boston's finest purveyor of Marine, Figurative, Still Life, and Landscape Artwork, will speak on the Art of Collecting Art.  They will consider the reasons for collecting art, what to look for in an artist's background and the importance of collecting emerging artists.   In addition, they will address the financial aspects of art collecting, price-range, insurance, estate planning and selling artwork.
