Instructor: Kate Nelson

Painter Kate Nelson is drawn to and moved by the outdoor life. She often paints in the wild: marsh, beach, bluff, woodland. And though her images are abstract, usually nonrepresentational, they are infused with the vitality, the atmosphere, the "sense" of the place where she stands and paints-wind whipped, bug bitten and sun scorched; open to impulse and unconstrained. She has studied at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (there influenced by Chuck Close, Keith Hollingworth and John Grillo), at Massachusetts College of A rt, at Haystack Mountain School, Deer Isle, Maine and worked in residence at the Vermont Studio Center. Nelson paints in her barn-studio in Brewster on Cape Cod. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts and in corporate collections, including Pfizer Corporation USA and the Matsushida Electric Corporation.
