Instructor: Constance Flavell Pratt
A member of the Pastel Society of America, the Guild of Boston Artists and the Copley Society, Pratt graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Her pastel portraits, well-represented in Boston College School of Law, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, have won many awards including Hudson Valley Art Association, the Copley Society and the Pastel Society of America among others. Unlike a great many pastellists, Pratt paints with pastels as she would with oils: laying on the large shadow masses of the face; using the strongest colors she deems feasible - and the darkest darks, her portraits are developed layer upon layer - much as with oils - using no fixatives between layers.
